Google Reveals Small Business Search Trends for 2019 via @MattGSouthern

Google has released a new report with fresh data on how people are searching for small businesses in the United States.

Local business search is experiencing “tremendous” momentum, Google says, with as much as 350 times more search interest in “local” + “near me” compared to 10 years ago.

Search interest in “mom and pop shops” are at a three year high, with particular interest in restaurants, diners, pharmacies, coffee shops, and pizza places. Search interest in “local shops” also hit a record high last year.

Here are some other key highlights from Google’s latest report.

2019 Small Business Search Trends

Most popular local shops over the past 12 months based on search interest include:

  • Local coffee shops
  • Local flower shops
  • Local print shops
  • Local tire shops

Search interest in local coffee shops in particular is currently at an all-time high.

The top states searching for “local shops” in 2019 include:

  • West Virginia
  • New Hampshire
  • Pennsylvania
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina

To help ensure small businesses continue to thrive, Google.org is making a $10 million pledge to help low-income and underrepresented entrepreneurs start new businesses via access to training and capital.

Google also introduced Google for Small Business this past June, which is a website dedicated to offering free resources for small businesses. Google offers a slew of other resources in the local business section of Grow With Google.
